To help you along on your journey, we’ve got a list of five tips for making money quick in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. If you follow these tips, your pockets will be stuffed in no time, putting you on the fast track to ultimate Animal Crossing riches.
Visit an Uncharted Island with a Nook Miles Ticket
One of the new features in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the inclusion of mystery islands, which players can travel to by redeeming a “Nook Miles Ticket” and visiting the airport. Usually, uncharted islands are great for quickly gathering resources, finding rare fish and bugs, and offering a nice change of scenery. However, if you visit a mystery island with the intention of making money, you can walk away much richer. Generally speaking, if you completely pillage a mystery island of all its resources and sell them, you can earn anywhere from 15,000 to 20,000 bells. This number can shoot much higher if you find a few rare bugs, but you can at least expect a hefty chunk of change for your efforts. It’s not the quickest or most efficient way of earning money in New Horizons, but it’s a consistently reliable source of income.
Horde Your Bugs Until Flick Stops By
You’ll spend a lot of time catching bugs during your time with New Horizons and it’s a great way to make money fast. However, it might be smarter to put those bugs into storage and hold off on selling them, as a certain special character will buy your bugs for a much higher price. On occasion, a red, bug-loving chameleon named Flick will visit your island, offering a hefty purse for those who have bugs on hand. Any bug you sell to Flick is worth 150% of its normal price, turning even the most common butterfly into a worthwhile catch. Although it might not be rational to horde every bug you catch, you might want to keep a few rare ones in your storage for when Flick decides to visit.
Keep an Eye Out for Glowing Dig Spots
Although this tip won’t net you any bells exceptionally fast, it’s one of the easiest ways to rack up cash. Once a day, you’ll be able to find a glowing spot on the ground. If you dig it up, you’ll be rewarded with a bag of 1,000 bells. While you might want to take the money and run, you should immediately bury the bag back into the crowd, which will sprout a small tree sapling. After a few days, you’ll have a fully-grown money tree, with three full bags of cash to collect. If you want to make even more money, you can take 10,000 of your own bells and plant them into one of the glowing holes, essentially tripling your money for free.
Craft and Sell the Hot Item of the Day
Each day, Timmy and Tommy at Nook’s Cranny will have a special “hot item” that they’re looking to buy, and will offer double the sell price than normal. You can find the hot item of the day by inquiring in Nook’s Cranny, or simply checking the bulletin board outside the shop. If you have a decent stockpile of wood, iron, and other resources, you can quickly craft a few of the desired item and sell them at a high price. Even if your resources are low, it’s still wise to pay attention to the hot item and what is needed to craft it, as you can simply keep it in the back of your mind until you have procured the goods.
Buy Turnips and Invest in the Stalk Market
Every Sunday, you can find the adorable Daisy Mae hanging around your island. Like her grandmother did in previous games, Daisy Mae offers players precious turnips at a flat price, which can be sold later to Nook’s Cranny. Each day, Nook’s Cranny will buy your turnips for a different price. Each player’s island has a different price as well, so it’s important to communicate with your other friends who are playing New Horizons and find the most profitable island to sell at. Be careful though, if you don’t sell your turnips after one week, they’ll become spoiled and virtually worthless. Although it’s a gamble, the turnip selling mechanic is one of the quickest ways to strike it rich.
