1. Elden Ring
Elden Ring is the latest game developed by FromSoftware, the revered creators of the iconic Dark Souls franchise. Much like other FromSoftware games, Elden Ring is a third-person action title that transports players to a dangerous fantasy world packed with deadly monsters and towering bosses.
With a varied arsenal of weapons, including swords, battle axes, and even magical spells, you’ll explore the open-world realm of the Lands Between as you search for the scattered Great Runes in an effort to restore the land to its previous beauty.
Although FromSoftware has claimed that Elden Ring is its “most accessible game yet”, you should still expect a hefty challenge. We’ll find out if Elden Ring is the best Souls-like game ever when it releases on both PlayStation and Xbox consoles on February 25th.
2. Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
The Lego game franchise is one of the most popular series around, constantly adapting popular brands into family-friendly, addictive adventure games. The series first started with Lego Star Wars: The Video Game back in 2005, and over 15 years later, developer Traveller’s Tales are returning to their roots with one of the biggest Lego games ever made.
After several delays, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is finally ready for release, and will contain content that covers all nine of the Star Wars films. You’ll be able to play as your favorite franchise character too, no matter how obscure, as The Skywalker Saga boasts over 300 playable characters.
We can’t wait to experience all the classic Star Wars moments in stunning Lego style, ranging from climactic lightsaber battles to blowing up the Death Star. We can’t wait to nerd out with Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga when it releases on all major systems on April 5th.
3. Starfield
While most gamers are familiar with the developer Bethesda for their work on popular RPGs like Elder Scrolls and Fallout, the team has been slowly working on a completely new game called Starfield over the past six years.
Like their other flagship Bethesda titles, Starfield is a first-person RPG where players will explore exciting environments, complete quests, and level up their characters. However, instead of taking place in a fantasy world or a post-apocalyptic future, Starfield is a grounded sci-fi story, sending players around the solar system as they touch down on various colonized planets. With trouble brewing between interplanetary factions, there are more than enough problems for you to solve as you brave the daunting task of space exploration.
There has been so much hype around Starfield that it’s hard to believe the game is finally coming. We’ll see if it lives up to the hype when it releases exclusively on Xbox Series X/S and PC on November 11th.
4. God of War: Ragnorak
The 2018 reboot of God of War on the PlayStation 4 has been regarded as one of the best action games of all time, with its brilliant combination of cinematic storytelling, detailed environments, and exciting gameplay.
After four years of development and a few delays, the sequel, God of War: Ragnorak, is scheduled to hit consoles sometime this year. This highly anticipated follow-up will continue the story of Kratos and his son Atreus as they continue to explore the realm of Norse mythology. While the narrative is shrouded in mystery, some recent trailers have given us a look at the gameplay, and things seem as exciting as promised.
2018’s God of War is a tough act to follow, but God of War: Ragnorak might be able to pull it off. Perhaps we’ll have another masterpiece on our hands when God of War: Ragnorak launches for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 sometime this year.
5. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2
We can’t forget about Nintendo, the often-overlooked but constantly stellar developer who produces masterpiece-level games time and time again. While the studio has been churning out games in the Legend of Zelda series since the 1980s, the recent Nintendo Switch game, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has been considered by many to be the best in the series.
With its open-world format that rewards exploration and natural discovery over linear progression, Breath of the Wild was a pleasant change of pace for this iconic series. Breath of the Wild 2 looks to turn the dial up a notch, adding in wild new gameplay mechanics like time travel.
More than any other game on this list, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 has been well-guarded, with sparse details about the actual content of the game. Despite this, we are confident that Nintendo will blow our minds again when Breath of the Wild 2 comes out sometime in 2022.
