As the new generation of gaming fast approaches, we are slowly being introduced to the tech that will dominate our lives for the next few years. One of these interesting pieces of tech is the PS5 dual sense controller. We finally know what this controller will look like and have an idea of the features that will be included.
Here is a quick rundown of the features to give you an idea of what this controller is capable of:
- Haptic feedback
- Adaptive triggers
- Built-in rechargeable battery
- The new ‘create’ button
- Built-in microphone array
- USB-C port
Along with returning feature, the rechargeable battery, there is a multitude of intriguing new things to toy around with. The first and arguably most interesting feature is the haptic feedback. This offers resistance to trigger buttons when the in-game situation gives context for it. Picture it as though you pull back the string of a bow and feel the resistance of the string. A brilliant immersion tool for players to feel one with the system and the game world.
Then functionality changes such as a built-in microphone and a USB-C port simply make the controller much more accessible as many players have USB-C chargers in abundance laying around for their phones. With standard USBs being less frequently found laying around.
The create function and the adaptive triggers also offer new and interesting functions for the system. Their uses are likely to come more clearly into view as we see more of what the system has to offer in future press conferences.
Then lastly, look at the overall design of the controller. It swaps the slick black default design of the last two generations. Switching it up with a clean, white design with hints of black and blue accents. The controller also looks a lot chunkier than the last few generations of Dualshock models. With a design that sits firmly in between the Chucky Xbox model and the slicker and slim dual shock models.
Overall, the technology that has been added to the controller alone is a good omen. If this is the level of careful and intuitive design we can expect from the full console, then I don’t think the gaming community will be disappointed.
