Top 10 Games Coming Out In 2020

April 15, 2020

It was already confirmed that the next-generation PlayStation console, the PlayStation 5, will be releasing later in 2020. The Xbox is coming out with its own console to rival Sony in a new generation of console wars just in time for the holiday season too. Each console already has a list of exciting exclusives and gaming fans excited about the next-generation system are already looking forward to their release. Unfortunately, we don’t know too much about the price of the PlayStation 5 or the Xbox One other than some rumors about the specs and the price. Just because the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S will be released in time for Christmas this year doesn’t mean that there won’t be many fun games for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC in 2020.

10. Elden Ring

What happens if you mix the fantasy knowledge of George R. R. Martin and frustratingly fun gameplay from Dark Soul’s creator Hidetaka Miyazaki? You will get a fantasy role-playing game full of action that promises to have players pulling out their hair from sheer fun and frustration. The best part is Bandai is behind the project as a publisher and you know they’re going to bring out the best in George R. R. Martin, who is best known for his fantasy worldbuilding and storytelling. Elden Ring will be an open world where the player, who can create their own custom character for roleplaying reasons, can run around tackling dungeons. Elden Ring is speculated to be released sometime in 2020.

9. Ghost of Tsushima

The PlayStation console has always been full of action-adventure games. Ghost of Tsushima looks to add to Sony’s collection of action-adventure games with an open-world title that involves samurai. In Ghost of Tsushima, the player will follow a samurai in a third-person view as they travel the open world taking down enemies with their katana. The player can either take down enemies through direct confrontation or sneak up for fatal katana kills. We wouldn’t expect any less from the studio behind Infamous First Light. Ghost of Tsushima has a release date of July 17th, 2020.

8. Outriders

The creators of Bulletstorm look to have a game similar to Destiny in the role-playing game sense. That’s not surprising seeing as the publisher behind the game is Square Enix, a publisher known for its Final Fantasy series. The gameplay for Bulletstorm looks to be explosive as it follows the player in a third-person view of their customized character as they loot-and-scoot their way through the game. Outriders also look to have a class-based system that has different classes similar to Destiny. Outriders will also have a skill tree with these different classes where players can upgrade their skills. Players can play by themselves with two other players in a cooperative mode that can feature three total players. We are excited to see how Outriders could possibly rival Destiny. While Outriders doesn’t have a hard release date, it is speculated to release sometime in late 2020.

7. Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 is finally coming out in 2020 across multiple platforms, but we’re especially excited to see how the studio that brought us the Witcher 3 can top themselves in this open-world game set in the future. Of course, it helps to have Keannu Reeves market the project. The studio has a good resume of games behind it which is only helping build hype for Cyberpunk 2077 and we’re looking forward to its release on the PlayStation 4 in September 2020.

6. Marvel’s Avengers

Square Enix is going to bring us Outriders for the PlayStation 4, but it also has its hands full with the Marvel Universe by bringing us an action role-playing game featuring our favorite superheroes: The Avengers. However, this version of the Avengers is not connected with Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, so there’s going to be a different story featuring the same characters we know and love separate from the story we’ve been told through the cinema screens this past decade. It’s an exciting prospect to see a brand-new story with the same characters and we’ll be able to see it when Marvel’s Avengers releases on September 4th.

5. Halo Infinite

Who isn’t excited about another Halo title? It’s been years since we last followed the adventures of our favorite Spartan, Master Chief, through space as he solos all kinds of baddies on a giant ring. The Halo franchise has been around for the better part of two decades and doesn’t look to be slowing down any time soon. We are looking forward to seeing it on the new generation Xbox, possibly with new game modes.

4. Overwatch 2

There is too much to be said about Overwatch that can’t be said within the confines of just one article. The game was a massive success that helped push the eSports industry and create jobs, merchandise, and plenty of opportunities for young Overwatch players. Of course, instead of expanding on the original game, Blizzard decided to work on a second title that will include more cooperative and player-versus-environment aspects. Look for Overwatch 2 to drop sometime in 2020.

3. The Last of Us 2

The Last of Us 2 will continue the story of Ellie and Joel as the player tries to piece together the events since the first game came out earlier in the decade. Naughty Dog has had significant delays since the announcement of The Last of Us 2, and recently came out with another delay due to the recent pandemic, but it looks like the game will finally release in 2020.

2. Minecraft Dungeons

Minecraft has been a popular game, and almost everyone’s go-to casual game, since the last decade. Minecraft doesn’t look to be slowing down anytime soon as far as popularity. It has multiple spin-offs released, a Netflix title, and a full-feature movie in the works. Minecraft Dungeons looks to take yet another spin on the original title by trying the dungeon-crawler genre. Although, there isn’t going to be a class-based system as you would think a dungeon-crawler would have. It also won’t have any crafting or building, even when the word “craft” is in the title, but it still looks like a fun Xbox One game regardless.

1. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

We’re getting another entry into the Assassin’s Creed series and it’s going to be a little different than the games we’ve seen before. You’ll be playing as a Viking Assassin with the usual Assassin’s Creed gameplay elements, but there look to be more role-playing elements added on to the game. We’d say it would be nice to make it out of Europe for a change, but it looks to be set in 9th century England. However, there’s no denying it will be fun to hack, slash, and stab our way through a Viking setting. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is rumored to release late in 2020.
